Hello again everyone, to recap here are the past verses that we have looked at.
10 A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life
13 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships bringing her food from afar.
16 She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
Now for this week we are looking at the Proverbs 31 woman's work ethic and how she is willing to serve God and her family and does it in a very selfless manor.
17 She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.
Verse 17 & 18
In verse 17 we see that she works vigorously which is defined as: Done with great force or energy,
meaning she works hard to accomplish the task at hand. She doesn’t get to middle and say "oh my
goodness this is too difficult" and give up but she continues to work hard and complete it. It is very
important for us as women to spend time in our homes homemaking. Because we all know how when
take a day off from the daily tasks, things begin to slowly get out of control. We have to take the time to
diligently work at home as a wife and mother, it is our responsibility to manage the home. Now that doesn’t
mean things outside the home aren’t important but home is a foundation for our children’s lives and it
where they are being shaped and molded for their future. They grow in so many different ways physically,
emotionally and spiritually. Our husbands and our children need us there to be Godly and Christlike because
they spend so much time out in the world, us being those things will keep them grounded in faith and
comforted in their own home. Now this does not mean our homes have to be perfectly clean and spotless
and that we have to cook and clean the whole time we are there.. None of us live in a perfect home and
none of us ever will. We have to do what needs to be done but we also have to take time to be WITH our
family and to build those foundations. And maybe you have children and family that are grown so these
things are a little different for you but you can take time and pray for them or invite them into your home or
just to be with them.
Now in 18 we see that she sees that her trade is profitable meaning whatever she is selling she is smart
about it and makes enough profit to put it back into her finances.
This woman is a business women. She continues to work through the night
And knows that her hard work is paying of and is necessary. Now we have to look at
the reality of the Proverbs 31 woman, she had no television, nothing to stay up and watch and no radio to
listen to. So her “late at night” could have been 9:00 well after it was dark outside and the fact of the matter
is that we have tv, radio, lights, computers, phones with games, all kinds of false daylight that keep us up at
night when what we really should be doing is resting and preparing for the next day. Her lamp not going out
at night makes me think of my children, sometimes they need us in the middle of the night
and we need to be rested and ready to handle a situation with love and grace
and not anger or shortness because we were awaken at 4:30am.
I can’t tell you how many times I woke my parents up in the night, I was a bit of a baby, but
never was I yelled at or sent back to bed, I was always welcomed with loving arms. Now eventually I just took
my pillow and blanket and went and slept on the floor because I knew that it was ok for me to be there.
Like I said earlier I go bed late and I sleep in late but my children are ALWAYS able to come to me in the middle
of the night no matter what the issue is.
So over and over we are looking at this woman’s work ethic, this is a Godly woman that is willing to work for
God, her husband and her family. Let me say that again.... this is a Godly woman that is willing to work for
God, her husband and her family.
Please pray this week that God will help show you the needs of your home and give you compassion for for children and husband where it's needed.
Start reading God's word daily, if not daily then weekly, if
you don't read it at all then just start reading it! You
will truly be amazed at the things that God reveals before your eyes and
how they manifest and become evident in your heart, and soul.
Looking forward to comments and questions on Thursday!
Love to you all and remember, Give grace, Live grace and Love gracefully
